We’ve been coming here for more than forty years. Not necessarily regularly and not always for the same reasons, but often enough that it stopped feeling like a destination a long time ago.
Long before Porto became what it is today, this region was already part of how we worked. Different brands, different periods, but often the same area and sometimes even the same people. The reason for coming has never really changed.
The work was here.
Northern Portugal became known for making things differently. Not through size, but through specialization. One place knits, another dyes, someone else finishes. Not everything under one roof, but connected through people, proximity and experience built over time.
Parts of that structure are still here.
But what keeps us coming back has never only been production.
You walk through streets that have changed and into places that haven’t. You sit down at cafés that have been there longer than most brands and meet people who still know who made what, where and why.
And somewhere between all of that, work always continues.
The people we work with here are used to adapting. Small volumes, changes during development and materials that never behave exactly the same way twice. They don’t expect everything to repeat perfectly.
Neither do we.
Over the years we have brought different ideas here. Some worked immediately. Others became better because someone pushed back, adjusted something or simply said no.
That is part of why we keep coming.
Parts of Porto have changed.
The reason we come has not.
Parts of Porto itself has changed. More people, more attention, more movement. That’s expected.
But the part we come for hasn’t.
